A New Friend

Once upon a sunny day, a boy named Leo was playing outside. He loved to ride his bike and fly his colorful kite. But, there was one thing that made Leo nervous—dogs. Whenever he saw a dog, his heart would race, and he would hide behind a

tree. Leo thought dogs were big and scary, with their barks echoing loudly. Today, he spotted a little puppy wagging its tail at the park. Leo froze, feeling his heart thumping. "What if it barks at me?" he wondered.

As Leo watched from a safe distance, the puppy bounded over to him. Its big, brown eyes sparkled with joy. "Hi there!" called a cheerful voice. Leo turned to see a girl named Maya standing beside the puppy. "This is Max. He’s

super friendly!" she smiled, bending down to scratch Max behind his ears. Leo took a small step forward, keeping a careful eye on the puppy. Max tilted his head, his wagging tail moving like a happy little fan.

Maya noticed Leo's nervousness. "Don’t be scared! Max just wants to play!" she said encouragingly. Leo wasn't sure. He wanted to be brave, but fear bubbled up inside him like a fizzy drink. He watched as Max

rolled onto his back, wiggling cutely. Leo felt a soft tug in his heart. Maybe Max wasn't so scary after all. Gathering his courage, Leo took another step closer, his knees feeling a little shaky.

"You can pet him!" Maya offered, holding Max still. Leo hesitated, his hand feeling heavy. Then he remembered how much he loved animals. In his heart, he wished to overcome his fear. Slowly, he reached

out to touch Max's soft fur. To his surprise, it felt warm and comforting. Max responded with a happy bark that made Leo giggle, his nervousness melting away like ice cream on a sunny day.

"See? He loves you!" Maya laughed, and Max nudged Leo's hand with his nose. The boy's smile grew wider as he began to scratch behind Max’s ears just like Maya was doing. Max closed his eyes, leaning into Leo's

hand, blissfully enjoying the gentle touch. Leo laughed again, feeling a happy flutter in his tummy. This little puppy was turning out to be friendly and fun, unlike what he had imagined before.

As Leo played with Max, he started to forget his worries. They chased after a bouncy ball Maya threw, with Max racing joyfully ahead. Leo ran after them, laughter spilling from his lips. Every bark from Max felt like music, and every leap he took made Leo’s heart flutter. The park turned into a playground of joy, and Leo felt lighter than a cloud in the sky.

After a while, Leo and Maya sat down on the grass. Max plopped down, panting happily beside them. "You know, dogs are really nice if you give them a chance," Maya said. Leo nodded, his heart now full of warmth. "I used to be

afraid of dogs," he admitted. Maya smiled and said, "That’s okay! Everyone has fears, but sometimes facing them leads to surprises!" Leo thought about this and felt proud of himself for being brave today.

They spent the afternoon playing fetch and running around with Max. Leo felt his fear shrink to nothing, replaced with joy and laughter. For the first time, the idea of having a dog wasn’t scary; it was exciting! As the sun began to set, Leo knew he had made a new friend—a gentle, furry friend that made all his worries disappear.

As they packed up to go home, Leo gave Max a gentle pat on the head. "You’re my favorite pup!" he said with a big smile. Maya beamed and replied, "He loves you too! Can you come back tomorrow to play again?" Leo’s heart skipped a beat at the thought of visiting Max. "Yes! I would love to!" he exclaimed, feeling like a new adventure awaited him.

That night, as Leo lay in bed, he thought about his day with Max and Maya. A warm feeling filled his heart, and for the first time, he was excited about dogs. Leo realized that sometimes fears can lead

to wonderful friendships when faced with an open heart. He closed his eyes, dreaming of soft tails and wagging paws, looking forward to the adventures to come with his new puppy friend.

The next day, Leo visited the park again, his heart filled with joy and bravery. Max was waiting for him, tail wagging furiously as Leo approached. "I’m back!" he called, feeling all of yesterday’s worries melt away. Maya

waved, and together they all laughed and played under the warm sun, a beautiful friendship blooming in the heart of the park. And from then on, Leo knew, in every adventure, there’s always room for a new friend.
