Terms of use

You must be 18 or over, and you must be the parent or legal guardian of every child you add.

Sapling Stories is designed for a grown-up to use, generally alongside a child at bedtime. Children do not get accounts of their own. By adding a child you confirm you are entitled to make decisions about their personal data and to give the consents described in the privacy notice on their behalf.

Stories you generate are written by an AI model from the description you type, and are checked automatically before they are saved and before they can be shared.

Automatic checking is imperfect and is not a guarantee. Read a story yourself before reading it to your child.

We do not promise that a generated story will be accurate, original, inoffensive, or suitable for any particular child, and we are not responsible for the content of a story you generate or choose to read. If one is unsuitable, delete it, and if a shared one is, report it.

Stories are private by default. You may share a finished story with other families, and you may withdraw it. Other families see the story rather than your account details. Anyone can report a shared story, and we decide what to do about a report.

• Use the app to generate or share material that is sexual, violent, hateful, or otherwise unsuitable for children.
• Share stories that infringe someone else's copyright, including stories built around characters you do not own.
• Add children who are not yours.
• Attempt to reach other families' accounts, children or private stories, or to work around the limits on how often stories can be generated.
• Use automated means to generate stories in bulk.

We may suspend, restrict or remove an account at any time, with or without notice.

The stories you make are yours, and you keep whatever rights you have in them and in the descriptions you type.

You also give us permission to store and use that content, and the reading records the app creates, for the purposes set out in the privacy notice: running and improving the app, training and testing the AI behind it, research and insights, and commercial use. We may pass that permission on to the suppliers who do this work for us. It also lets us show a story to other families for as long as you leave it shared, and to anyone holding a link you made.

This permission is worldwide and continues for as long as we hold the content. Deleting your account ends it for anything not already shared, aggregated, sold or used in training. You can also ask us to stop using your family's data for research, insights, selling and AI training, and keep using the app as normal.

You confirm you have the rights needed to grant this, and you indemnify us against claims arising from content you generate, share or link to, and from your use of the app.

You can download what we hold and delete your account from your account settings at any time. Deleting an account removes it and the reading record, and includes any stories you had shared. The licence above continues for content already shared, sold, aggregated or used to train a model.

Sapling Stories is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including as to availability, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or that it will be uninterrupted or error-free.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, for lost data, or for anything arising from a generated story or from content shared by another family; and our total liability to you is limited to the greater of the amount you have paid us in the previous twelve months and £100.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

These terms are version 2026-08-19, effective 19 August 2026. We may change them at any time; where a change is material we will ask you to accept the new version, and continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it. Questions go to contact@saplingstories.com.
